Semi-Final Version - ISD Model

After much thought, I have decided to work with my first draft model for my final presentation. While the second draft was more visually interesting, the first draft actually allows for more of the components of my vision.

Here it is:

  1. First, I like the look of the model. It’s easy on the eyes. It’s not overly complex and the difference in size of the various components draws my eyes naturally to the beginning of the model. The blue circle that surrounds the internal components provides a clear indication that this is the primary focus of this model. Likewise, the components to the right are clear subordinate to the activities taking place within the blue circle.

In the heading are the initials “(NBU)”. I’m not sure what this means so it would be helpful to spell this out as I also see these same initials in the body of the model. Perhaps it’s the title that is throwing me off because as I read the first component, “Conduct Job Analysis” I am not entirely sure of what the model is supposed to do. The title states SU Staff Development but from the text in the first component it doesn’t sound as if this is really staff development, but something else.

When I look at the first component my eyes go directly to the first bullet, which may be the reason I have difficulty determining the purpose because as I read down the bullets I finally get to the big red box which is probably the title for this first step; Conduct Job Analysis Project. For me it would read better if this box could somehow be placed at the top. Then to me it would have a more logical flow. I am wondering if it might be helpful to put “project scope” somewhere in this first bubble?

Diffusion phase: I am wondering if there is anything else that can go in this box that would be “diffusion oriented task” . By itself communicating results seems a bit thin for diffusion to take place but I don’t know what else might be done.

Again for the third component it would be more logical for me to see the title at the top of the bubble than at the bottom.

Moving to the Design, Development & implementation phase the one thing that catches my eye is there are three arrows. I am wondering if the either the small arrow can go away or take the big bottom arrow away. As I follow the arrows I’m not quite sure why we need two arrows moving to the right. Can the bullet “ use data for continuous improvement” be expanded ? I am unsure as to what is being improved?

Overall I think this is a nice model. It has nice flow . I think just a little re-organization, at least from my perspective will improve its effectiveness.
